How Do I Set Up Rotating QR Codes for My Project?
Lock down who can sign on to your site by automatically or manually rotating QR codes throughout your project.
Rotating QR Codes Overview
BuildPass allows you to set up QR codes that rotate automatically or manually, ensuring only authorised personnel can sign on and induct on site.
Setting Up Rotating QR Codes
- Navigate to the Project Settings page.
- Choose a project and locate the Enable Rotating QR Codes.
- This feature might not be available in your account by default, so if you don’t see it, contact the BuildPass team.
- Choose between the two options for rotation:
- Automatic Rotation: Set the QR code to change at intervals you specify (e.g. every 5 minutes or every 2 days).
- Manual Rotation: Input a 6-digit code that can be updated manually as needed.
- You can also add a custom message to inform workers about who to contact if they encounter an issue with the QR code.
- Save your selection
Using Rotating QR Codes
Once set up, the QR code will appear on your dashboard. Please be aware that if you download the poster, it will show the current QR code valid at that point in time this will eventually change, and will require the worker either be given access to the current QR code, or 6 digit access code.
Tips for Managing Rotating QR Codes:
- QR Code Kiosk Mode: If you don’t want to print a new poster every time the QR code updates, use the kiosk mode to display the current QR code on a device or monitor that can be left on site.
- Manual Code Sharing: If a worker cannot access the QR code, simply provide them with the current 6 digit code to allow them to sign in.
Worker Experience with Rotating QR Codes
When a worker attempts to sign in:
- They will be prompted to scan the latest QR code if the rotation has occurred since their last login.
- The site manager can provide this code if needed, allowing the worker to proceed with their induction or sign-in process.
Once validated a worker will have access to the project for the next 12 hours without needing to scan or enter an updated code.
This process is consistent across both the web and app versions of BuildPass, ensuring a seamless experience for all users.
